sewing class

Sewing classes Sydney.

Do you dream of being able to sew your own clothes or alter garments to fit you properly?  Do you find fast fashion is all the same and you don’t want to look like everyone else? Do you love fashion but are worried about the environmental impact of the clothing industry? You’ve come to the right place!

Whether you’re a total beginner or a returning sewer, my sewing classes are designed to help you build skills, boost confidence, and spark creativity – one stitch at a time.

Let’s take a peek behind the seams and see what you can expect.

Learn the basics of sewing – the right way.

If you’ve never touched a sewing machine before, don’t worry—you’re in the right place. My beginner sewing classes start with the absolute basics of sewing, including:

  • How to set up and safely use a sewing machine
  • Basic sewing machine stitches and when to use them
  • Understanding how fabric behaves when you’re sewing it
  • Sewing kit essentials
  • The fundamentals of altering clothes

Best of all, you’ll get hands-on practice in a supportive, relaxed environment where mistakes are part of the learning process.

Create something with your own hands and creativity.

There’s something special about walking away from a sewing class with something you’ve made with your own hands.

My beginner sewing projects are carefully chosen to be practical, stylish, and achievable. Depending on the sewing class and your experience level, we might make a reversable tote bag, over the should bag, zip pouch, or a made-to-measure garment like a top, skirt, dress or pants.

And because I’m passionate about upcycling and repurposing, there’s always the option to bring in old clothes or fabric to repurpose into something new and useful.

Tips to inspire you to upcycle and repurpose clothes.

Once you’ve got the hang of basic sewing techniques, I’ll show you how to apply them to give new life to clothes you already own. You’ll learn how to:

  • Clothes upcycling and alteration tips.
  • Fabrics and clothes that are easier to upcycle and sew.
  • Practical techniques to alter clothes to fit your properly.
  • Useful ideas for transforming existing garments into something new / different.

Upcycling is not only practical, it’s also a creative, sustainable way to express your personal style.

Get creative. Share ideas. Ask questions. Have fun.

My sewing classes aren’t just about learning – they’re about connection. You’ll join a small group of like-minded people who are all on the same journey. It’s a friendly, encouraging space where you can ask questions, share ideas, and enjoy the process.

Many people find sewing to be a relaxing and even meditative activity. It’s time you can set aside for yourself to slow down, focus, and create.

Sewing is a sustainable skill you’ll enjoy for life.

Sewing is an incredibly empowering skill. Not only will it help you save money and reduce waste, but it also gives you the freedom to take control of your wardrobe – repairing, altering and making clothes that reflect your style, values, size and shape.

If you’re passionate about sustainability or simply tired of buying clothes that don’t fit quite right, learning to sew is a game changer. You’ll be doing something positive for the environment while learning a skill that practicies mindfulness and has been scientifically proven to reduce stress.  It’s a win for everyone!
