Dressmaking class for beginners. Learn how to make clothes.

dressmaking class for beginners

Beginner-friendly dressmaking classes.

Do you want to start making your own clothes but are not sure where to start? My beginner-friendly dressmaking classes are the perfect introduction to sewing and sustainable fashion.

Whether you’re completely new to sewing or returning after a break, you’ll learn the fundamental skills needed to make your own clothes from scratch. From reading and understanding commercial patterns, to cutting  and sewing different fabrics, I’ll  guide you step-by-step through the process of making clothes that fit your style and your body.

Make clothes that fit you.

Fast fashion often means compromising on fit, quality, and style. Our bodies are all different and off-the-rack clothes rarely fit us perfectly.

Learning to sew gives you the power to create garments tailored to your shape and personal taste. Whether you prefer loose and flowing, fitted and structured, long or short, when you learn to sew you’re in control of the final result.

Kind to the planet and your wallet.

Making your own clothes is a great way to reduce your environmental impact. In my dressmaking workshops, I share tips on how to reuse and repurpose textiles, giving new life to old sheets, vintage garments, or thrifted fabric finds.

By avoiding mass-produced clothing made with poor-quality materials, unethical labour and very poor environmental standards, you’re making a conscious choice to support sustainability. Upcycling and repurposing is not only eco-friendly – it’s a great way to save money whilst curating a capsule wardrobe.

Sewing is a mindful practice.

Sewing is more than just a practical skill – it’s also a form of mindfulness. Focusing on your hands, slowing down, and creating something from scratch helps quiet the mind and reduce stress.  Sewing brings a sense of calm, achievement and joy.

Unleash your creativity.

Dressmaking and sewing allows you to express who you are. No longer do you have to follow trends or dress like everyone else when you can make your own clothes – explore colours, textures, shapes, and silhouettes that reflect your personal style.

Over time, you’ll even have the skills to adapt existing patterns or start drafting your own which opens up endless design possibilities.

Curate a wardrobe of clothes you love.

By learning to sew, you can start curating a capsule wardrobe of pieces that not only fit beautifully but are meaningful and long-lasting.

No more impulse buys or clothes that wear out after a few washes. Instead, you’ll have a collection of garments that you made with care. Most importantly, your clothes will be a reflection of your skills, style, and values.

Join a dressmaking class.

I run dressmaking classes once a month, each covering the basics of making staple garments – tops, pants, dresses and skirts.  Reserve your place and start your journey toward a more creative, conscious, and stylish way of dressing. All you need is a willingness to learn – I’ll teach you the rest.

Learn how to sew and use your sewing machine with confidence. All sewing classes are beginner friendly, fun, supportive and hands-on. With a maximum of 4 people per class, there is plenty of time for dedicated, one-on-one attention.

Sewing classes are held at my workshop in Frenchs Forest on Sydney’s Northern Beaches (near Northern Beaches Hospital).  Private lessons and groups workshops can be held throughout Sydney at a location of your choice.
