ABOUT THIS CLASS
Beginner Sewing Classes Sydney
Whether you’re completely new to sewing or looking to refresh your skills, in this hands-on, beginner sewing class, I’ll guide you through the basic foundations of sewing.
After completing this interactive learn to sew class you’ll be ready to start using your sewing machine with confidence and start altering and upcycling clothes – even make your own clothes.
Note: This class does not include pattern making or how to read a pattern. During a three hour class, there is not enough time available to cover this.
In this class, I’ll cover
- Basic sewing machine techniques
- Tips for sewing different fabrics
- Sewing kit essentials
- The fundamentals of altering clothes
During the class we will sew a reversable, lined bag with internal pockets. This project highlights a range of sewing techniques suitable for beginner sewers and important skills that form the foundations of basic sewing.
Fabric and Materials
All fabric and materials are supplied.
Sewing Machine
This is a hands-on class and attendees can bring their own sewing machine. If you don’t have your own sewing machine, I have ones available for use during the class.

Maximum: 4 people
This is a small, group class with a maximum of 4 people. This allows ample time for one-on-one attention allocated to each attendee.

Classes and workshops are held at Frenchs Forest on the Northern Beaches, Sydney (near Northern Beaches Hospital).
The workshop is a 15-20 minute drive from Chatswood, Manly, St Ives and Narrabeen. Plenty of free, untimed street parking is available. There is a bus stop within easy walking distance.
After placing your booking, you’ll be sent the address, along with parking and other information..
Refreshments
Morning or afternoon tea will be available for attendees to enjoy. Unfortunately, we cannot cater to the specific dietary or allergy requirements of individual attendees.
Clothing Swap
The core purpose of Second Life Upcycling is to encourage recycling, repurposing, rethinking and reusing. With this in mind, feel free to bring along good quality clothes you would like to swap or give to other workshop attendees. This encourages a circular economy and ensures your clothes go to a good home and are kept out of landfill (hopefully).
Note: Any garments or accessories not taken by other workshop attendees will have to be taken home. I do not offer a recycling service.
